FIFA President Gianni Infantino has warned that some negative comments about the 2022 World Cup, hosted in Qatar, may be based on falsehoods. During a press conference in Riyadh, he encouraged constructive and focused voices while warning against blind biases and inaccurate information.
"I would like to address some of the critics who are sinking into false narratives so that we can achieve the ethical discipline which must remain constant," said Infantino to Al-Riyadh newspaper. He added: "We believe reasonably that the current situation is in its best possible state, but it calls for wisdom and patience to proceed in a practical and accurate manner.
Saudi Arabia’s infrastructure is more than adequate to host the 2022 World Cup and Qatar's hosting effort is serious and viable. These valid messages require maintaining credibility and understanding towards different perspectives.
"We need to always remember that we are all working towards a better presence for football sport, which for us is an identity and culture," continued Infantino. He said: "We need to build trust with the worldwide sports following who will be represented by their distinguished presence in the Kingdom.
A strong agreement between concerned parties is necessary to achieve noticeable progress and avoid mistakes. We must learn from the past and modern architecture to uphold future visions and implement necessary plans.
